Highland Presbyterian Church Come join the celebration of love that God has for you...
Welcome to Highland Presbyterian Church, and thanks for taking time to visit our Web Site! We’d like to introduce you to our friendly church family, our historic sanctuary, and the ministry of this congregation. Let us start by sharing with you a bit of basic information. Highland Church is located at 701 Highland Road, in the village of Street, in the rolling farmlands of Harford County, MD. We worship together at 8:45 and 11 a.m. on Sunday mornings September through May, with Sunday School at 10 a.m. In June, July and August, we have one service at 10 a.m. The church office is staffed from 9 to 1 on Tuesday through Friday. Pastor’s office hours are 9 to 12, Monday through Thursday, or by appointment. To reach us by phone, please call 410-452-9394, or feel free to email us at highpres@prodigy.net. The pastor’s email address is jvcarlson@hotmail.com.
A Rich Heritage, A Strong Future The land on which Highland Presbyterian Church is located was purchased in 1887, construction of the building was begun in 1888, and the first pastor was called in 1890, but the church really traces its roots back to 1747 and a little church called the “Log Cabin in the Barrens.” From this congregation eventually came a number of Presbyterian churches, including the ones located at Slate Ridge and Slateville. And it was from these two churches that were drawn most of the parishioners who eventually established Highland Church, where a relatively new village which serviced the Maryland Central Railroad was developing. In May of 1890 The Rev. Albert G. Parker preached his first sermon, and in February of 1891 Holy Communion was celebrated for the first time in the new sanctuary. We look forward to many years of service to our neighbors and support for our membership, as we seek more and more to become the community of faith that God has called and created us to be.
Mission Statement is a family of believers in Jesus Christ, worshiping God, learning God's ways, doing God's work.
